Back by popular demand, Damon's Christmas Wishlist for 2006. Well, to be honest, there's nothing 'popular' about this list. It's more of a means to provide my family and relatives convenient access to gift ideas for me during the shopping season. Being a technology-focused geek with a grin, sometimes asking for a 'LG DVD Player with at least one HDMI interface, DTS digital audio, and DVD upconversion' can get lost in translation. I originally thought an Amazon wish list was the best approach to all this, but then there were a few products that I couldn't find on there so I decided to capitalize on actually having a website this year. To keep it simple, how about links to products that can be clicked on and printed out. Ahhhh, much better, right!
In no specific order, but beginning with the gadgetry first, let's get things started.
DVD Player – I'm still in the process of doing some research on a number of models. I'll update this entry later, but at the very least, my biggest requirement is an HDMI output along with DTS, progressive scan, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and digital optical out.
iH7 Black iPod Clock Radio ($149.99) – A while back I bought a Brookstone alarm clock. Magnificent alarm clock with dual alarms and heck, you could even configure it to only alarm on weekdays or weekends. Too bad the LEDs died in less than 6 months. I figured it's time for an upgrade.
Canon Powershot SD900 ($447.94) – I need something small, portable, and that takes good pictures. Based on reviews and my positive experiences with Canon, I think the SD900 will do the trick.
Sport Jacket – I'm often finding myself in need of sport jacket to toss over a dress shirt or sweater.
Dress shirts and ties – You can never go wrong with dress shirts and some more ties. Heck, I only have two ties right now so my selection needs expanded at some point.
Sleep pants ($39.50) – Usually I just toss on a pair of whatever shorts I have in the drawer, but I could certainly use something that isn't Nike or Adidas and perhaps a bit more comfortable.
Dress socks – I have a few black pairs, but that's about it. In general, I need something to go with black or brown dress shoes.
10-Pair Closet Trouser Rack ($39.95) – There has to be a better way to hang pants than using clothes hangers, perhaps this trouser rack is it.
Casual shirts – Not too dressy, not to dressed down. I can always use some more shirts to wear to work.
Cufflinks – Seriously, I have no cufflinks whatsoever. Actually, last time I realized I needed them, I had to borrow someone else's right before a meeting.
Note: To give you an idea of stores that generally stock styles I like, most of my clothes come from Banana Republic, The Gap, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Then again, I have dress shirts that I got for $2.79 on sale from wherever my dad happened to be shopping one day, so feel free to shop anywhere.
Alright, time to move away from the necessities and towards the entertainment area. Included below are ideas for video games, music, and movies.
Sonic the Hedgehog ($59.82) – Yes, that's right, Sonic is back and better than ever. What can I say, I loved this game when I was cough a bit younger and I can only imagine how graphically appeasing this version. While at the time of this writing this game was not released, it should be available starting November 16, 2006 from major outlets.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent ($59.99) – Been a fan ever since the first game in this series came out. I can't tell you how many countless hours I've spent honing my skills as a military operative whose sole mission is ensure national security at any cost.
Call of Duty 3 ($59.82) – I've seen this game demo'd at all the Best Buy's I've frequented and the graphics looked amazing. Aside from that, it gets a pretty good rating from various game review sites so I thought I'd give it a gander. Besides, how can you go wrong, it's one of those games where you just blow stuff up the entire time.
Burnout Revenge ($29.82) – Racing games just appease me for some reason. Perhaps it's the speed, the fact that you can destroy other cards, who knows, the fact is though I love them. I can remember spending evenings after work and on the weekends playing Grand Tourismo with my roommates until our fingers bleed and blistered up.
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion ($54.99) – I've spent hundreds of hours playing some of my favorite RPGs (e.g., Final Fantasy series), but I have yet to play one for the XBox360. This game was one of the highest rated and it looked stunning from some of the screenshots.
Perfecto Presents: Sandra Collins Part 2 ($17.99) – She's got skillz as a Dj and the looks to go with it. A number of years ago my friend Tim and I went to see Sandra and Paul Oakenfold live at Club Laga. What a show.
Delerium: Nuages du Monde ($12.99) – I've always been a big Delerium fan and this just happens to be their latest album. Wonder when all the remixes will start popping up for tracks on this one?
Jay Z: Kingdom Come ($14.99) – Still a great artist even if he can't make up his mind on whether or not to retire.
Snoop Dogg: The Blue Carpet Treatment ($11.99) – Yes folks, Snoop DEEO2xGEE is still around and putting out albums. This one is his latest release.
Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man's Chest ($19.99) – Captain Jack Sparrow they call him. I've already seen this movie, but it's one of those I could watch over and over again so why not add it to my collection.
I'll try and update this list between now and Christmas in case I think of anything else.
